Freshwater Cultured Pearls

In purchasing our products you can be certain that all of the freshwater cultured pearls in our jewelry are genuine, good to excellent quality that have undergone no enhancements or treatments from their natural states, except for industry standard procedures.

Our freshwater cultured pearls are all genuine cultured pearls, having been grown in actual living oysters and hand picked for matching color, size and luster by expert pearl sorters in the leading freshwater cultured pearl producing country of Asia.

As a pearl jewelry dealer, we use the Gemological Institute of America's GIA set to judge the quality of freshwater pearls. Each piece - whether it is a pearl necklace or earrings - is classified according to this GIA master set. Each individual pearl is graded into a 'quality' category based on -

Luster - The defining quality characteristic for pearls is a pearl's luster. It is not just a measure of the surface brilliance but is a gauge of just how perfectly each calcium carbonate crystal has been laid down against the other, and so allowing us to offer fine jewelry. If there is little deviation in the angle of layering the luster of freshwater pearls is as nature intended - perfect in every respect. Where there is a slight deviation in the angle of layering, then the luster is not so bright.

Shape - A perfect sphere is the shape most highly prized. Other shapes may possess the same beautiful characteristics, but if they are not absolutely round then they won't be valued as highly as those that are.

Nacre - Thickness of nacre from the center outwards is an important quality indicator. The longer pearls are allowed to grow in an oyster, then the more coverings of nacre there are making up them.

Blemishes - Traditionally, the beauty rely on an unblemished appearance. Blemishes though are quite common in both natural and cultured, and are caused by impurities that get into the oyster's natural system. We sell only pearls of the highest quality. Any pearls found with a high degree blemishes are rejected out of hand. If they have only light blemishing then we deem this as passable at the lowest end of our scale.
